Everybody knows some of the best horror films are more than a little cheesy, and the direct-to-video comedy slasher horror film Jack Frost is truly no exception.
This film (not to be confused with the similarly named Jack Frost starring Michael Keaton which is a horror film in its’ own right) is the epitome of cheese.
With an outrageous storyline (a serial killer fuses with snow during a horrific traffic accident and becomes a killer snowman) over the top effects and just all-around ridiculous death scenes, this movie is cheesier than most.
So when I came across this epic and very cheesy Jack Frost inspired slasher snowman cheeseball from fellow creepy baker and horror-loving friend Christie Gersten, otherwise known as @MissLusyd on Twitter, I knew I had to share it. (that and the fact that I totally ruined this week’s epic post I had planned by literally setting it on fire…oops. Thank goodness for friends with solid backup posts I can share!)
This Jack Frost Cheeseball Snowman savory salute first premiered on Scream Stream last December, and it looks so good I just had to ask if we could share it here too for anyone who may have missed it.
This recipe is not only easy, it’s a fast and delicious centerpiece that can be quickly whipped up for any festive gathering (who says you can’t bring it to Grandma’s for Thanksgiving this year?!?) and can be made up to three days ahead of time and stored safely in the fridge.
You will need
- 2 8oz blocks of cream cheese at room temperature
- 3 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese at room temperature
- 1 package Ranch flavored seasoning
- 1 ½ cups finely shredded jack cheese
- 1 baby carrot
- Whole peppercorns
- Fresh thyme on the branch
- Sriracha
In a large bowl, combine your room temperature cream cheese, cheddar cheese and your ranch seasoning. Mix well to fully combine.
Divide the cheese mixture and form one smaller cheeseball for the head and one larger cheeseball for the body.
Pop your cheeseballs into the fridge to firm up for 1 hour.
At the 1-hour mark, remove your smaller cheeseball and carefully shape the mouth. Add in small dents for the eyes and the nose as well.
Wrap your cheeseballs in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (overnight is best).
When it comes time to serve your Jack Frost cheese snowman, remove from the fridge and press your shredded jack cheese into the surface of both your cheeseballs.
Stack your cheeseballs so the larger is on the bottom and the smaller is on the top.
Press your baby carrot into the head for the nose and use your whole peppercorns for eyes and buttons. Garnish with the thyme sprigs for the eyebrows and whole thyme branches for the arms.
To give your Jack Frost cheese snowman an appropriate level of bloody deliciousness, splatter with Sriracha as desired (don’t forget a good swipe across the mouth to help accentuate his bloodthirsty grin!)
Serve with crackers and enjoy!
