Being a demon in Hell is hard enough…what with the constant mayhem and chaos, without having to deal with dry flaky skin on top of everything else. My days are full of inciting riots, creating havoc and just spreading general hate and discontent, which means I don’t have much time to really pamper myself.
My morning routine generally includes me hopping into a hotter-than-Hell shower and then running off to work in an incredibly dry and arid space. This dermal abuse can lead to skin in desperate need of a little TLC, which is why, on the weekends, I like to blend up a batch of this easy to make charcoal exfoliating scrub.
When I’ve got down time, I drag it into the tub with me. A handful or two slathered onto my freshly shaved legs and then rubbed in leaves my skin silky smooth and lightly scented. And if you’re looking for a detoxifying and hydrating mask, look no further! The sugar gently exfoliates while the activated charcoal helps pull out toxins and the oils are absorbed into your skin, leaving your hide supple and soft.

To make your own you will need:
- ½ Cup white sugar
- ½ Tablespoon coconut oil, melted
- 3 Activated Charcoal Capsules
- Scented oils of your choice (I love orange and clove) *
*if you have sensitive skin, first test a small drop of whatever oil you’re planning on using on the inside of your elbow and wait at least 24 hours to check for a reaction. When in doubt, leave it out.
Start by first mixing up your dry ingredients. Using a twisting motion, separate your charcoal capsules and dump them into your sugar. A word of warning…at this stage of the recipe activated charcoal is evil and it is going to get on everything, so be careful to not wear anything white while making this. Trust me.
Once your charcoal and sugar are mixed up, drizzle in your melted/liquid coconut oil and blend well.
Add in a few drops of your favorite scented oil…let sit for an hour to really let the ingredients get acquainted, and you’re done! This recipe should make enough for quite a few luxurious baths/masks.
Store your sugar scrub in a container that will keep out moisture. I like to store mine in the bathroom next to the tub and a second one in the shower!
Just scoop out a handful and use it as you wish. (If you find that you’ve got a little stubborn charcoal still on your skin after rinsing, a quick rubdown with a body wash will get rid of that instantly without stripping off the hydrating oil.)
Enjoy!

Oh, cool! I’ve never bought activated charcoal capsules before but I’ll have to try to hunt them down sometime to make this. 🙂 I’ve already got the sugar and coconut oil, so I’m half way there with the ingredients. lol
You can certainly do it without the charcoal and just go for a regular sugar scrub… 🙂
Oh, okay! That’s good to know. Thanks for the tip! 😀 I’ll definitely give this a shot.
