Halloween DIY: Easy Felt Skull and Hearts Garland

finished garland

Sometimes you just need to take a break from the dark and dreary that is winter and do a little fun spring decorating…which is why I decided to make this bright and festive skull and heart garland the other night.  Not only is it ridiculously easy to do, but the materials are affordable and the end product is just so adorable!

Because I’m so in love with it, I’ve decided to share it with you all.

To make your own felt skull and heart garland you will need:

  • 2 sheets of black craft felt
  • spray glue
  • scissors
  • black twine/yarn, about 3 feet
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • skull and hearts garland template

Print out two copies of the skull and hearts garland template on standard 8 1/2 X 11 paper.  Make sure you tell your printer to scale for media so you don’t cut off any edges.

Spray the back of both your template pieces lightly with glue.  I repeat…lightly.  All you want to do is have it stick to your felt temporarily.

Gently press down your glued templates onto your felt.

Cut out each piece individually.

You should end up with six skulls and six hearts for a total of 12 pieces.

Once your pieces are cut out, peel off your template paper.

ready to assemble

Space your cut pieces out along your yarn in any pattern you like.  I chose the alternating skull/heart/skull pattern but feel free to do what you want.

Using hot glue, dab a bit onto the back of each piece and press your yarn into the melted glue.

Wait for it to cool…and then display as you like!

Happy spring!
