I think it’s fairly safe to say that while I’ve always said I will do my best to ensure that the recipes on my blog are tasty…I’ve never promised that they would be done in good taste.
We’ve pushed the envelope a few times, and this Coronavirus Lockdown Lemonade recipe is no exception. Sure, people might complain and say that we’re making light of a very serious situation, but at the same time, if we can’t sit back and laugh a little bit (and enjoy a good stiff drink while the world burns) then what’s the point of living in the first place?
Speaking of laughing, coming up with the name for this drink was probably the hardest part of this entire post. Lucifur and I went back and forth and finally settled on two potential names: The Lockdown Lemonade and the Quaran-tini. Eventually, after a rousing round of rocks-paper-scissors, Lockdown Lemonade won (personally I think she cheats, but she insists she’s playing fair.)
This recipe takes no time to whip up and because all the ingredients can be pre-sourced at the store before your mandatory quarantines start, it’s an easy one to stockpile in your favorite prepper freezer. The only fresh ingredients are the limes and even those can be frozen for long term storage for up to four months by sealing them in zip-top bags with all the air removed.
Finally, as every doctor will tell you, an important part of staying healthy is ensuring you get lots of vitamin C, and this drink is PACKED with it!
So, grab your N95 respirators, pull on your nitrile gloves, and let’s get mixing!
For this recipe you will need:
- 1-2 fresh limes
- 1-2 frozen lime ice pops
- 1 can frozen pink lemonade concentrate
- ½ can (about 1 cup) Virus Vodka, chilled
- 2 cups lemon-lime soda
- 24 oz. Corona beer, chilled
- Fresh or frozen strawberries, lightly muddled
- Ice
Start by first zesting and then juicing your limes. You’ll want to end up with approximately ½ cup of fresh lime juice. Set the zest aside for now.
In your blender, combine your lime juice, lime ice pops (remove the sticks first, please) and your frozen pink lemonade concentrate.
Using the now empty lemonade can, fill half-way with Virus Vodka and add to your blender along with your lemon-lime soda.
Add in ¾ of your lime zest and blend thoroughly.
Transfer your slush to a large container and add in your cold Corona beer.
In an empty glass, place a scoop or two of muddled strawberries at the bottom and then top with ice.
Pour your Corona Virus Lockdown Lemonade over the ice and garnish with a light sprinkle of lime zest.
This frosty cool concoction is perfect for chilling out that fever you feel creeping in at the corners of your consciousness, or just to use as a way to toast the coming apocalypse.
No matter how you enjoy it, just don’t forget that poking a hole through your N95 mask to fit a straw through does technically make it useless.
Bone appetite!
