A few weeks ago I did a poll on what you, my loyal minions, wanted to see more of on this site. The response was swift and overwhelming…more beverages! So I promise, going forward, to try to incorporate more drinks (both with and without boo-ze) into the site.
So, let’s get mixing!
Hot summer days and cool summer nights often trigger thunderstorms in my neck of the woods. Nights are full of wild light shows and deep booming rumbles, and if we’re lucky, a shower or two.
That means the next morning the sidewalks are full of rain puddles, mud, and the occasional drowned and soggy worm. By mid-afternoon the puddles have partially evaporated, leaving behind a thick earthy sludge full of floating bits of slime and bloated worms. I love to scoop this stagnant slop up by the bucketful and serve over frosty ice cubes to any visiting friends and or family. Mmm…delicious and refreshing, with a light kick!
Unfortunately, with the way the environment works, and the fact that many places are experiencing droughts and water rationing, stagnant puddles full of mushy worms in the middle of summer might be a rarity for you. Don’t worry! I have an alternative! You can make your own stagnant puddle (worms and all) using the following ingredients!
You’ll need:
- 1 2-liter bottle of lime soda
- 1 12-oz can of frozen lime-ade
- 1 13-oz jar of Maraschino cherries
- Black food coloring
- Green food coloring
- Fresh lime zest
- creep realistic gummy worms.
- Whipped cream slime (see below)
Optional:
- 99 Black Cherries liquor (or any other cherry flavored vodka or liquor)
AT LEAST 24 HOURS AHEAD OF TIME – add a few drops of black food coloring to your jar of Maraschino cherries. Mix well and put into the fridge to marinade.
To assemble your stagnant puddle:
Drain your Maraschino cherries and save the liquid. Both the liquid and your cherries should now be black (yay!).
Mix together your lime soda, frozen lime-ade, one drop of green food coloring, and your black Maraschino cherry juice.
To make it boozy, add 1 oz of 99 Black Cherries to each glass, then fill the rest of the way with ice and lime-ade mix.
Whipped cream slime: To make the stagnant slime, blend a bit of your whipped cream with a few tablespoons of your black lime-ade soda mixture and a half a drop of green food coloring. Gently spoon mixture on top of your drink, allowing it to float.
Garnish with the black Maraschino cherries and a pinch of your lime zest, and one (or more) of your gummy worms.
Enjoy responsibly and bone appetite!
